What is DrachenFest?

DrachenFest US is a four-day festival that's also an immersive gathering of live-action roleplayers in Pennsylvania. Attendees become fantasy characters, battling on behalf of dragon avatars that represent their goals and values.

Inspired by Germany's legendary festival, DrachenFest combines adventure, epic battles, celebration, and medieval life in a dynamic fantasy sandbox. Create a new character or breathe life into an old favorite as you join a camp, defend its banner in massive battles and sieges with hundreds of players, and or simply explore a vibrant player driven fantasy world. Whether you crave the thrill of adventure or the depth of immersive storytelling, DrachenFest offers an unforgettable experience!

Tickets start at $230, with prices increasing by $20 at the end of December, March, and May. For the month of June, this increase is doubled. Admission covers 4 days of immersive gameplay and at least one day of early arrival.

Every attendee starts with 3 copper Drachenfest coins, the in-game currency, but since pre orders are closed, you'll have to wait to purchase more at the event itself.

The Drake Academy

The Drake Academy offers young heroes (ages 10–15) a safe and immersive space to train in combat, magic, and alchemy, preparing them to become champions of DrachenFest!

The worlds of magic and wonder at Drachenfest are a joy to behold, but few embark on a grand quest without two assurances: the desire to explore and the safety of their children. And for parents, sending a child on their own adventure demands trusted supervision.

Enter The Drake Academy—a school for young heroes set within the vast realm of Drachenfest. While you embrace your epic journey, your child can embark on their own adventure, training in combat, magic, alchemy, and more. This LARP-within-a-LARP offers art, learning activities, unique quests, and tiered experiences, allowing participants to grow each year until they’re ready to graduate into the Drachenfest proper. Imagine sharing tales of your heroic exploits while your child regales you with their own!

For a $450 event ticket, your child will enjoy...

Unique Activities: Exclusive quests, art projects, and classes woven into the larger DrachenFest story.
Daily Schedule: Daily Care: Runs 10 AM–6 PM (Wed–Sat) with a supervised lunch break. Snacks provided; but lunches should be brought or planned for by you. Outside Academy hours, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Expert Staff: Our team of experienced educators, LARP professionals, and summer camp specialists ensure a safe, age-appropriate, and enriching experience. With years of expertise in youth programming, they’ll guide your child through every step of their adventure.

Arin Dineen

Inspired by their time as Green Camp ref in the inaugural DFUS last year, Arin (also known as Sparrow), will now be heading up the Drake Academy! Arin is an experienced educator and game runner, and is very excited to bring their expertise in designing games for young people to the world of DrachenFest!

After graduating with a BFA in Studio Art from Wesleyan University, Arin has spent the last decade developing their passion for storytelling in all forms as a middle school teacher at the Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences. Arin has created hands-on curriculums for classes in Art, Filmmaking, and Game Design, as well as afterschool TTRPG and LARP programs. During the summer, Arin runs the Menagerie Fleet LARP camp, a sci-fi/fantasy game based on themes of ecological preservation and stewardship. Last year Arin joined the team at the Wayfinder Experience, a LARP sleepaway camp in upstate NY to learn more about running longer-form LARP for kids. Arin is so excited and grateful for the opportunity to create this program for DFUS!

Rey Selvage

Rey is an artist, nature enthusiast, teacher, and activist. They are currently enrolled at the Kansas City Art Institute working towards their BFA in painting and social practice. Rey has a minor in creative writing, and has been creating narrative works of fiction for a very long time. She is always looking for new, exciting, and informative ways to express herself creatively. Rey has been inspired by Arin Dineen since she was around 10 years old, as she was a student of Arin’s up until the age of 16 when she became a summer camp assistant. Rey has worked with Arin ever since, and has now become an employee and a dedicated part of the Menagerie Fleet team. She is ecstatic to be offered an opportunity to share her passions with the students at Drake Academy!

Samir King

Drake Academy Counselor

Samir is a teacher, climber, and lover of stories. With the help of his BS in Astronomy & Astrophysics from Penn State, Samir works at Ezra Academy as a middle school math teacher, where he also DMs for the school’s TTRPG club. In the summer, Samir spends his time mentoring and exploring, and has worked as a summer camp counselor for almost a decade. Last year, Samir joined the Wayfinder Experience as an overnight counselor, where he worked with kids learning to LARP and play together. This was his first experience with LARP, and he found that the rewards of combining his skills as an educator and camp counselor with playing in unique and magical fantasy worlds were quite profound. He is so proud and eager to do the same at DrachenFest.
